My Thoughts on Hereditary the so-called the Scariest Movie of the Year.

Recently, I just watched Hereditary with my friends. I decided to watch this because I have heard tons of  people stating that this movie is a should watch for horror movie fans. So, I'm extremely eager to watch it in cinema. And here's my thoughts.... (WARNING!! There might be spoilers, please leave this page if you do not want to be spoiled about the movies. Thank you!)

Here's a little synopsis of the movie:
Annie is a miniature artist who live with her husband, Steve, her son, Peter, and her daughter, Charlie. Her mother, Ellen, had died and when she delivered her eulogy it was then revealed that her relationship with her mother is not pleasing. Later on in the movies, Annie stated that her family suffer from mental illness and mostly died because of it. One day, Annie forced Peter to take Charlie with him to his party. Unsupervised, Charlie ate a piece of chocolate cake that contains nuts which she is allergic to causing her to hyperventilate. Charlie panicked and drove her home with high speed along the dark road. Since Charlie was choking, she open the window in order to get some air but unfortunately while Peter swerved to avoid the animal, Charlie was decapitated by a pole. The tension between Peter and Annie started here. Peter had been traumatized and paranoid of Charlie presents ever since. Annie was so down that she befriend Joan, who claims to be a member of the support group she went. Annie believes in Joan because of the same reasons of losing love ones and shares with her about the sleep walking habits that she had. Joan then taught Annie how to perform a seance to communicate with Charlie. Annie then had a nightmare which then she reveal that Peter was unwanted. After that nightmare, in the middle of the night, Annie ask her husband and son to join her to do the seance. Annie was possessed by Charlie's spirits until Steve doused her the with water. Annie then believes that Charlie spirits that she called upon had been malevolent and tried to burnt the medium, Charlie's notebook. But she cannot do it because when she burn it the fire also burn her sleeves. Peter started to experience weird and creepy things. Annie also had found out that her mother was a leader of a cult and Joan is one of her compliance. Annie then realized that she had to save Peter from Paimon entering his body by sacrificing herself. She then asked Steve to burn the notebook in order to die burning with the notebook but the fire took Steve's live instead. Annie then possessed and hunting Peter down to the attic. Peter jumped out of the window because he was surprised of other members of the cult in the attic causing him to be unconscious. A glimpse of light which is the symbolized of Paimon entered Peter's body and not long after that Peter woke up and saw her mom was floating towards the tree house and entered it. He then followed her mother. In the tree house there are other cult members and Joan crowned Peter and called him as Charlie and Paimon. The movie ends with the chant of Hail Paimon continuosly.

Let's get started with the plot before we talk more about the technical issues. For the story line, I really love how the story develops, how they reveal a little clue of what is happening. How the story provide the information to the audience is sure the smoothest of all, they make sure to give the information really subtle make sure the heard them clearly but sometimes don't really aware of it. Just like how Annie said that Peter was unwanted, how only Charlie was exposed to Annie's mom but not Peter, and why Annie's brother said that her mom was trying to put someone else inside his body. All of those we do remember well but does not give a further consideration until we reach the end of the film. With the ending of Paimon resides in Peter's body, it gives a lot more curiosity sense to the audience of what to happen next. If I have to give it a score I would like to give the plot 9 out of 10.

The actors are all doing well. I love how the actress portrait Annie's character. In fact, because of her I cried while watching a horror movie for the first time. Her acting in pouring out her feeling for Peter while explaining things to his husband is where I started to get all teary. This movie plays with our emotion so well that I feel tense not because of the jumpscare but that little things like the "nock" sound of Charlie that gives us goose bump. It was so rare to find a horror movie that does not play with jumpscare so much. This is why it is the scariest movie this year since jump scares are just too mainstream nowadays.

For the movie editing process. I love how the color of the scene look so nice, the camera angle just makes the scene even more aesthetics. I seriously can't stop saying "Wow the director put the scene so nice and aesthetics" that I feel like if I screenshot any of the scenes it would  pass being exhibit on an art exhibition. What I was a little bit disappointed is that there are some transitions that was being cut too quick that I couldn't get what was the things on the shots. But other than that the music and everything just works fine for me.

This is what I thought of the movies overall I gave it a 8.5 out of 10. If you are a horror fan and you want to experience the new horror, this movie is a recommended for you. There are a lot of conspiracies and debates about the movies where you could found online. Tell me your favorite one about this movie.
